Meorot students can receive up to a year’s worth of college credits for their gap year at Meorot.
If a Meorot student plans to attend Stern College or Touro College, we have pre-existing arrangements with these institutions, which allow Meorot students to transfer a year of our credits.
For students attending any other college or university, we provide an ECE-accredited transcript, which you can submit to your college of choice. The college will then review the transcript and determine how many credits, if any, they will accept.
Our dress code is an integral part of the Meorot experience and is in effect at all times in the seminary building, throughout the neighborhood, in the dormitories (except in your dorm room) and during all seminary activities.
The dress code means that shirts need to have sleeves to the elbow and a neckline that adequately covers the collarbone area. Shirts are expected to provide coverage of the back and stomach. Skirts or dresses must cover the knees. If a skirt or dress has a slit, it may extend to, but no further up than the knee.
Outside of the Meorot neighborhood during your free time, there is no official dress code. However, please keep in mind that you are a representative of our seminary.
Check out our ātripsā page for more details! Meorot takes the group on full day trips about once a month and we visit much of the country. Some of our past trips include hiking, rappelling, banana boating, visiting Masada, swimming in the Kinneret, and more! When you learn Torah in Israel, the Land is your classroom – after studying a particular topic or story, we often visit the location where it took place – to bring your Jewish learning to life!
Yes! Every week, we dedicate an afternoon to chesed (acts of kindness). Students are matched with individual chesed projects based on their interests. We partner with organizations like Friendship Circle, Aleh and Osim Sameach, giving you the chance to make a real impact in the community during your gap year.
The Meorot campus compound is secure with a coded gate and intercom. Madrichot liveĀ with theĀ students on campus, and Meorot’s Em Bayit lives close by,Ā so should any emergency arise, they know what to do.
Meorot is in contact with āCheder Matzav,ā (situation room)Ā a security company used by every yeshiva/seminary across Israel. We are updated in real-time about any security risks. We take a medic and an armed security guard with us on every hike.
Meorot students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of our students attended public school their entire lives, and then became involved with NCSY, Chabad, Tribe, Batya, Oorah and other Jewish youth organizations and decided to spend a gap-year learning after high school. Other students attended Jewish day school their entire lives, and are looking to delve further into their Torah learning and get answers to those deeper questions they have. Additionally, some of our students attended a mix of private and public school.
Meorot offers both beginner and advanced curriculum tracks for classes like Chumash (Bible) & Halacha (Jewish Law), as well as both beginner and advanced ulpan classes for Hebrew. We also offer one-on-one tutoring and small group learning so that each student can study in the type of environment that best suits her.
Once a potential student applies online, we will be in touch to schedule a video interview with our co-director, Mrs. Lynn. We will then let the applicant know if she has been accepted and what the next steps are.
Our students come from all over the United States, Canada, and the UK. Are you from somewhere else? Weād love to hear from you!Ā
Meorot’s classroom and administrative building is located on Kanfei Nesharim, the bustling street that leads into Har Nof, which is filled with shops and restaurants. Our apartments are situated in Har Nof, a lovely neighborhood just a short bus ride from downtown Jerusalem. Students can either walk from the dorms to the classroom building or take a quick 10-minute bus ride.
At Meorot, we ensure that each of our students has amazing plans for Shabbos each and every week. Twice a month, Meorot either has Shabbos on campus or takes the girls out to an off-campus Shabbaton. If weāre on campus, Meorot staff and their families join the students for meals, and host special programming. If itās an off-campus Shabbaton, usually one staff memberās family will join, and the entire seminary will have the opportunity to visit different cities and sites throughout Israel. The Tzfat Shabbaton is a crowd favorite! On āoff-Shabbosim,ā students will be able to visit family and friends in Israel or be set up with local families who are excited to host you for Shabbos (health regulations permitting).
The Meorot staff isĀ theĀ most caring and dedicated team! Please see our Faculty and Staff page for descriptive bios.Ā
